| The source text is taken from the Dictionary of Aeronautical Terms, which covers professional terms in many fields related to aviation and provides explanations and definitions for more than 12,000 aeronautical terms. The translation of the dictionary can provide a convenient access to professional knowledge for civil aviation-related practitioners and teachers and students. In translation, the translator found that some terms had multiple translations, nonstandard translation of phrasal terms, and non-consistency of derivatives with their basic nouns. It is necessary to solve these ambiguities in the translation of aeronautical terms to gradually reduce the ambiguities in the translation of aeronautical terms. In this report, the translation principles for selecting the most appropriate translation are based on both monosemy and established by usage regarding of the multiple translations of one term. For long phrasal terms, literal and sequential translations are preferred in accordance with the principle of transparency, while also ensuring conciseness. When translating derivatives, consistency within the same conceptual system must be considered, using the principle of systematicness to maintain consistency.Through an analysis of translation challenges encountered during the practice, the ideas and methods presented in this report can offer valuable guidance towards the normalization of aeronautical term translation. |
