| This report is a C-E translation by showcasing Institutional Changes and Trade Strategies: Enlightenment from China’s Experience. In this report, the author selects the9 th chapter and the 10 th chapter for the source text. The source text is an academic text on economics and trade, which mainly discusses the government management and the integration of domestic and foreign trade, and which also briefly demonstrates the impact of the international environment on trade strategy and policy. The source text is also an informative text that conveys objective facts and views, where there are a large number of academic terms,Chinese paratactic sentences and non-subject sentences. In translation, the translator should converse the two languages flexibly to render the information of the source text, and should ensure the original style of ST to clearly present its sentence structure. Therefore, under the guidance of Chesterman’s translation theory, the author solves the typical difficulties in the translation. In light of the notion of universal connection by Popper,Chesterman connects all of the translation elements, including the source text and the target text, and constructs the norm theory to transform translation from a single process to a three-dimensional one.Based on his revisions in translating,Chesterman also proposes the assessments,so as to connect the two assessments in between. This report, therefore,is to explore economic and trade texts that underpinned translation strategies at syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic levels under the guidance of his theory, and is to analyze cases not only by his strategies, but by his norms followed. At the syntactic level, the author adopts the strategies of “sentence structure change” and “unit shift” to translate Chinese paratactic sentences. At the semantic level, the author employs the strategies of “synonym” and“emphasis change” to alter the semantic focus. At the pragmatic level, the author adopts the strategies of “coherence change” and “transediting” to elaborate on the translations on the long Chinese sentences due to the vague meanings and the lack of coherence,in the academic text on economics and trade. Moreover, the author adopts the introspective assessment and the pedagogical assessment to assess the strategies and the norms in different translation rounds. |
