Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area, located in Chenzhou City,Hunan Province,is the only 5Alevel tourist attraction in Chenzhou City and is known for its extensive water, forest, and wetland resources. The abundant natural resources and cultural landscape of the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area draw a large number of domestic and international visitors. Therefore,it is critical to translate the extensive Chinese corpus in the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area. This C-E translation report is based on the Chinese corpus collected during the author’s field research in the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area. The report first analyzes the main features and mistranslations in the current translation version of the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area.Through field research,it is found that there are some mistranslations in the current English translation version of Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area, such as spelling errors, grammatical errors, direct translation of pinyin, various translations of one scenic spot, irrelevant translation, verbatim translation, mistranslation of style, and cultural mistranslation, which affect foreign tourists’ understanding of various resources of the scenic spot and damage the image of the tourist destination. Therefore, under the guidance of skopos theory, this translation report retranslates tourism texts of Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area, aiming to better publicize the scenic area to foreign tourists and show its unique natural and humanistic charm, thus further expanding the international influence of Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area. The author then goes on to describe the difficulties faced throughout the retranslation process on linguistic, cultural, and stylistic levels. The report, which is guided by skopos theory, sorts out various difficulties in the retranslation process and proposes appropriate translation methods: when dealing with linguistic difficulties, translation methods such as literal translation, free translation, restructuring, and omission are used to make the translation conform to the target language’s linguistic habits;when dealing with cultural difficulties, translation methods such as amplification and analogy are used to make the translation more in line with the target language’s expression norms and habits and to help readers understand what the source text means;when dealing with stylistic difficulties, translation methods such as word-for-word translation and explanation plus imitation are adopted to maximize the characteristics of the source text and accurately convey the meaning and connotation of the source text. The report finds that the translation of tourism text should not only focus on the form of the source text, but also on the equivalence of information content and stylistic function between the source text and the target reader in order to effectively convey the source text’s linguistic beauty and humanistic sense.Due to the author’s limited time and ability, there are still some flaws in the translation report, such as incomplete parallel texts and a lack of thorough understanding of relevant theories. We hope that more translators and researchers will focus on the C-E translation of the corpus in Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area to provide references for improving the English translation quality and cultural publicity of Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area and other domestic cultural tourist attractions.
