The Cultural Value And Literary Influence Of The Biography Of Shenxian Research

The Biography of Shenxian is an important representative work of Taoist scholar Ge Hong in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.It is mostly regarded as Ge Hong’s missionary work,but in the writing of the characters and deeds in the biography,the characters and plots are considerable and have a certain literary quality.Historically,research has mostly focused on the textual research of its version,characters and Taoist connotations.A thorough study of the text of The Biography of Shenxian can reveal that there are many cultural factors of the times contained in the writing of the story content.Therefore,this paper attempts to study The Biography of Shenxian from the perspectives of culture and literature,mainly from the two aspects of its cultural value and literary influence.By studying it from the dual perspectives of culture and literature,it will broaden the research horizon and deepen the understanding of The Biography of Shenxian as Taoist literature.This paper mainly consists of three chapters.Firstly,in the introduction,it discusses the research status of The Biography of Shenxian and Ge Hong’s life story.The first chapter mainly analyzes the writing purpose and cultural reasons of The Biography of Shenxian.On the one hand,Ge Hong stated in the preface of The Biography of Shenxian that the creation of The Biography of Shenxian was to supplement the inadequacies of the writing content of Biography of the liexian.Biography does have some progress.On the other hand,the prosperity of social religion and culture is another reason to promote the generation of The Biography of Shenxian.The second chapter mainly discusses the cultural achievements and value of The Biography of Shenxian.the premise of value.In the cultural connotation,it mainly analyzes the political cultural connotation,religious cultural connotation and ethical cultural connotation,and highlights the cultural elements contained in the text.When discussing the cultural achievements of its generation,it is mainly based on the written content of the text and its position in cultural history,so as to demonstrate the theory of health preservation,fairy tale theory and the promotion of hermit behavior.When discussing the cultural value of its generation,it is mainly based on the cultural environment of the era where Ge Hong is located,so as to discover his construction of life consciousness,Confucianism and Taoism and personal dignity.The third chapter mainly discusses the literary influence of The Biography of Shenxian.First of all,a simple analysis of the writing content and form of its text shows that The Biography of Shenxian not only inherits the writing style of"Historical Records",but also has the writing style of "Historical Records" in the writing of characters in the story;in Wei and Jin Dynasties Under the creative environment with fictional elements,the writing of the texts and stories shows a great tendency of fictionalization.In terms of literary influence,The Biography of Shenxian with its illusory storyline and rich implication of immortality,has had a profound impact on later poems and novels.Firstly,it gives an overview of the origin of the time difference of Xianfan in the story,its performance in the text and its development in later generations;secondly,it discusses the influence on later poetry,mainly from the transformation of allusions,the influence on Li Bai’s poetry and the influence on Cao Tang Youxian’s poetry.The influence of the novel is discussed in several parts;finally,its influence on later novels is analyzed.
