| The section, excerpted from the Woodhead Textile Publishing Series, centers upon the development history and sound absorption performance of activated carbon materials, which will contribute to the research of a better utilization of activated carbon and provide useful references for the development of sound-absorbing material. The source language of this translation practice report is a scientific text with distinctive characteristics, involving many passive voices, logic and complex long sentences. In addition, the terminology and insufficient knowledge of relevant scientific objects also pose considerable challenges to the translator. In view of this, this practical report is based on the framework of "Understanding,Expression, and Adaptation(CEA)" proposed by Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing.Furthermore,in order to solve the specific problems in the translation process,it is carried out under the guidance of translation theories put forward by Yu Guangzhong and Peter Newmark. In terms of comprehension, the translator classifies the problems into three aspects: lack of relevant domain knowledge, polysemy of a word, and long and difficult sentences. In the aspect of expression,it should be improved from three aspects: the coherence of translation, avoidance of European Chinese and the objectivity of scientific and technological texts. As for adaption, the translation is modified through the adjustment of sentence structure, addition, omission and other translation techniques.During the whole process, the translator comprehensively uses Google Translation,Baidu Translation,Youdao Translation,Terminology Online and the Internet and other auxiliary tools to improve the efficiency and verify the translation of some terminologies. In addition, the translator copes with the source text through the pre-translation editing, machine translation,post-translation editing and proofreading to ensure the quality of the final translation. This practice report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the background of translation activities and the process of the final version; The second chapter briefly presents the CEA-Framework proposed by Li Changshuan; The third chapter is the focus of the case analysis, which elaborates on the process of the translator’s "Comprehension","Expression" and "Adaptation " adopted to solve some translation problems; The fourth chapter serves as the conclusion part, which mainly illustrates the harvest of the translator in this practical activity and some shortcomings of the translator.Through this translation practice,on the one hand, the author has acquired some strategies to deal with some complicated problems when doing scientific and technical translation. On the other hand,in the processes of discovering terms, translating terms, verifying translation results,an English-Chinese comparison table of terms in the field of activated carbon was finally produced. It is hoped that this glossary of terminology can provide some reference for future scientific and technological research done by other translators. |
