The category is one of the core grammatical categories in modern linguistics, which is ubiquitous in human language and presents its own different ethnic characteristics. While some of the ethnic languages have started to explore the category of causative and have achieved some results, there are few research results on the category of causative in Tujia language. The aim of this study is to explore the syntactic and semantic aspects of the Dianfang Tujia language,to define and classify the categories of Dianfang Tujia language, and to reveal the commonalities and individual characteristics of the Dianfang Tujia language. This thesis consists of five chapters,he introductory part of which introduces the purpose and significance of the study, briefly describes the current status and development of the research on the category of causative at home and abroad, and outlines the content of the thesis and the sources of the corpus. The first chapter discusses the definition and classification of the category of causative in human languages and Dianfang Tujia language, and identifies the main types of causative sentences studied in the thesis;the second and third chapters analyse the syntactic and semantic features of lexical and analytic causative sentences in Dianfang Tujia language in turn;the fourth chapter summarises the typological features of the two types of causative sentences. Finally, the concluding section outlines the content and conclusions of the paper, and points out the shortcomings of the thesis. From a linguistic typology point of view, the Dianfang Tujia language causative category can be divided into two categories: lexical and analytic, and lacks morphological causative structures. In terms of syntactic structure, the lexical Dianfang Tujia language categories are divided into two sub-categories: the making-verb and the moving-junction;the analytic categories are divided into three sub-categories: the“ko35”clause,the interval clause and the making-verb clause. In terms of semantic expression, the syntactic structure of any of the dependent categories shows a commonality in semantic expression:the dependent category contains two events: the causative event and the service event. The above analysis leads to a typological characterisation of the Dianfang Tujia language’s Causative category. The analytical nature of the Dianfang Tujia language is present in all aspects of the syntactic structure, and the various grammatical meanings are expressed mainly through the use of dummy words and inflectional order.
