This quality of recording has arisen since the birth of the film on December 28,1895,when John Grierson proposed that documentary is the subject’s "creative treatment" of reality. The explanation of documentary in the Dictionary of Film Terms is: a film that completely excludes fiction, has an attractive and persuasive theme and point of view, but he draws material from real life and uses editing and sound to enhance the appeal of the work. That is to say,the image of the characters in the documentary that the audience sees is based on the character’s own image, through the observation and understanding of it,coupled with its own understanding and perception, based on the principle of documentary authenticity, through narrative methods, audiovisual language and other creative techniques to construct, and finally presented. It is not completely equivalent to real life, and even has a lot of differences from real life, which is the inevitable result of the intervention of the subject in the documentary. At the same time, because everyone has different growth environments and personality differences,so a person’s view of a thing is different,so each documentary creator is unique, and the world they see is the same,so the documentary can convey the views and emotions that belong to the author, and these emotions can trigger the spiritual resonance of the audience who have the same aesthetic taste and personal experience as the creator. From the perspective of the creator, this paper will use text analysis and case study method to explore how the character construction of documentary films is integrated into the creator’s personal experience and creative philosophy,as well as the balance of subjective consciousness in the process of intervention. The first chapter discusses the relationship between "real" and "fictional" in documentary films through the distinction and definition of concepts related to subjective consciousness; The second chapter divides the different stages of creation into chronological order, and discusses in turn how the subjective consciousness intervenes and affects the creation of the film at different times; The third chapter discusses how to influence the intervention of the subject’s consciousness through the balance between authenticity and artistry, the grasp of different identities, and the change of creator’s thinking during long-term creation. Finally, combined with personal works,I reflect on the intervention process of subjective consciousness in character documentaries.
