| Dissemination of Chinese scholarship is an effective means for other countries to learn about China.Therefore,the translation of academic texts is significant for the exchange of civilization and culture.Translation of Chapter 4 of China Discourses in American Orientalism—Reading Pearl S.Buck’s Sino-American Transnational Writings selected as the project.As an academic monograph in humanities,this book is a great piece of achievements in the field of Pearl S.Buck studies.Since China Discourses is a highly informative text for professional and academic purpose,translating it accurately is of top priority.In light of this,the translator adopts Nord’s proportion of function plus loyalty as the guiding principle.Furthermore,the translator serves as a liaison between the author of the source text and the target readers.The translator utilizes translation techniques and methods such as amplification,annotating,splitting,etc.to ensure the accuracy of the translation so that the target language readers can accurately understand the information through the translation under the guidance of documentary translation strategy and instrumental translation strategy.It has been found that it is feasible to adopt Nord’s function plus loyalty principle to guide the translation project.The translator clarifies it by using lexical and syntactic case analysis.Furthermore,it is envisaged that this report could provide the helpful references to other translators for future translations of similar texts. |
