This report is written on the basis of the English-Chinese translation of Chapter 7Section 3 to Section 6 and Chapter 8 of South Korea under Compressed Modernity,which vividly describes the society of South Korea and its contemporary changes with standardized and logical language expressions.This report focuses on analyzing the translation of conceptual metaphor in the source text and summarizing the difficulties and solutions in translating conceptual metaphor in academic texts.The source text is highly academic,and there are a large number of conceptual metaphors in the source text with special functions.Based on the conceptual metaphor theory,the translator classifies the conceptual metaphor in the source text into three categories: ontological metaphor,structural metaphor and orientation metaphor.By focusing on the difficulties of translating conceptual metaphor in academic texts,the translator adopts the translation methods of free translation and literal translation,and the translation techniques of addition,shift,division and combination,as a way to reproduce the information of the source language,to ensure the smoothness of the translation,and to improve the accuracy and logic of the translation as well.Through the translation practice and the translation report writing,the author has gained a deeper understanding of the textual characteristics of academic texts and the translation techniques of conceptual metaphor in academic texts,and summarizes the difficulties and typical problems encountered in the translation process and their solutions,in order to provide useful references for the translators of such texts.
