Humility refers to the prosocial behavior that one party actively gives up to the other when the two parties have conflicts due to some common favorite or needed goods, roles, space and other resources. In China’s thousands of years of history and culture, modesty is the way to deal with the world, the highest standard of a gentleman’s self-cultivation,which can resolve conflicts and promote the harmonious and stable development of society. In recent years, the state has introduced the policy of two children and three children. After the birth of younger brothers and sisters, the care that parents can give to the first child is bound to decrease, which will cause psychological gap to the first child.Studies have shown that parenting styles and sibling relationships have a significant impact on children’s prosocial behavior. In such an environment,do the first born children show more competition or humility? What is the relationship between parental rearing patterns, sibling relationships, and the submissive behavior of the first born child?Drawing on previous studies, this study selected 800 first born children and their parents from multiple children families in grades 1-3 of primary schools in Chongqing and Chengdu as research objects.First of all,in Study 1,we prepared our country’s native "First born Children’s Humility Behavior Questionnaire".Secondly,in the second study,we investigated the status quo of the first born children’s humility behavior in China, and whether there were significant differences in the first born children’s humility behavior in demographic variables. Finally,we tested the mediating role of parental rearing patterns between sibling relationships and the concessional behavior of the first born child. The research results are as follows:The first born children’s humility behavior questionnaire includes three dimensions:initiative, intention and guidance, and has good reliability and validity, and all indicators meet the requirements of psychological measurement. It can be used as a reliable tool to measure the first born children’s humility behavior in China. The first fetal children in grade 1-3 of primary school are at the upper middle level of humility behavior; There is a significant positive correlation between the concessionary behavior and the age, grade and sibling age difference of the first child in grade 1-3 of primary school; There is no significant difference between the first child’s humility behavior and the first child’s sex and the gender consistency between siblings in grades 1-3 of primary school. There is a significant correlation between sibling relationship and the concessional behavior of the first born child.Among them, there is a significant positive correlation between sibling interaction, sibling acceptance, sibling friendship and the first born child’s humility behavior, while there is a significant negative correlation between sibling conflict and the first born child’s humility behavior. There is a significant correlation between parental rearing patterns and the first child’s yielding behavior.Among them, there is a significant positive correlation between democratic parenting style and the modest behavior of the head fetus, and a significant negative correlation between the indulgent, autocratic, laissez faire and inconsistent parenting style and the humility behavior of the head fetus.Democratic parenting style partially mediated the association between the humility behavior of the head fetus and sibling relationship.Educational suggestions:(1)Control the age difference between compatriots, and try to control the age difference between the first child and the second child more than 5years old.(2)We should pay attention to the influence of sibling relations on first born children and help them build positive and warm sibling relations.(3)Adopt democratic upbringing style.(4)The school makes use of ideological and moral courses and establishes relevant associations to cultivate students’ prosocial behaviors such as modesty in an organized and purposeful way.
