In interpreting situations, interpreters will make some self-repairs to improve the accuracy of the interpretation output.Appropriate self-repairs can help interpreters accurately convey the source language information and facilitate the transmission and exchange of information.Meanwhile, improper self-repairs will reduce the fluency of the interpreter’s expression and affect the quality of the interpretation output, and they will also create a sense of distrust in the audience. This thesis takes the mock conference entitled “The 4th Sino-French Symposium on Cooperation and Exchange in Artificial Intelligence for Scholars” as an example to explore the causes for frequent improper self-repairs in French-Chinese consecutive interpretation and provides improvement strategies for this phenomenon.According to the author’s statistics, there were 41 self-repairs in this mock conference, including 29 inappropriate self-repairs.After taking into account the research of domestic and foreign scholars and the analysis of the author’s performance in this mock conference,it was discovered that the frequent improper self-repairs were caused by insufficient interpretation preparation, inadequate auditory analysis and poor output of interpretation. In order to reduce the phenomenon of inappropriate self-repairs,solutions are proposed: to supplement the background knowledge,to improve the auditory analysis of source language and to develop good language expression habits. The author hopes to provide some inspiration to interpreters who also encounter the problem of inappropriate self-repairs in French-Chinese interpretation,so that they can reduce this phenomenon in their work, improve the fluency of interpretation output and optimize the completeness and accuracy of message delivery.
