| With the development of computer science, computer aided translation has become an inevitable trend. It brings us many benefits, such as facilitating the division of labor of projects, allocating resources, managing term bases and translation memory, taking advantage of machine translation, and sharing information with team members. The combination of machine translation and post-editing(MTPE)can greatly improve translation efficiency and translation quality. However, when translators adopt this new working method, machine translation can easily make lots of mistakes,so translators need to pay heed to them in post-editing and correct the translation in a timely manner. This thesis studies the translation of UN Chronicle. It analyzes the mistakes commonly made by translators in post-editing,including inaccurate translation of words and lack of coherence throughout texts. On the lexical level, translators are prone to choose inaccurate semantic meanings, ignore the connotations of words and misjudge the attitude behind words. On the text level, translators often attach little importance to cohesion and coherence. To deal with such problems, the thesis puts forward strategies such as understanding contexts more comprehensively, strengthening cohesion, optimizing information flow, making postediting style guides, and reading through the translated texts more carefully. This thesis aims to improve DGC’s translation of UN texts and offer insights to the application of MTPE in the translation of similar texts in the future. |
