A Study On The Effect Of Fear Of Negative Evaluation On Social Anxiety Of Junior High School Students And Intervention |  | Posted on:2023-01-02 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis |  | Country:China | Candidate:K J Liu | Full Text:PDF |  | GTID:2555307154466124 | Subject:Mental health education |  | Abstract/Summary: |  PDF Full Text Request |  | Social anxiety is a negative emotional experience of fear and anxiety that individuals experience when interacting with others.Middle school students are in adolescence,with accelerated development of self-awareness and a transitional period of self-exploration and self-development,and positive or negative evaluations during this period can affect their performance in social interactions.Positive evaluations can cause individuals to be encouraged to perform better in social interactions,while negative evaluations often cause individuals to feel fearful and cause all kinds of discomfort when trying to engage in social activities for fear of bad evaluations from others,resulting in social anxiety.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the relationship between middle school students’ fear of negative evaluation and social anxiety,and to design a reasonable and effective group counseling program on this basis to help middle school students reduce their social anxiety.In this study,we used the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale(BFNES)and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale for Adolescents(SAS-A)to investigate the relationship between fear of negative evaluation and social anxiety among 892 junior high school students in a middle school in Huaibei City,Anhui Province,and screened 40 subjects with fear of negative evaluation and social anxiety from the questionnaire,randomly divided into experimental and control groups.Each group of twenty subjects were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group,each with 20 participants,and the experimental group was treated with group counseling for 8sessions,while the control group was not treated with any intervention.The results of the study showed that:1.Negative evaluation fears of middle school students are at a moderate to high level,and the level of negative evaluation fear of rural students was significantly higher than that of urban students;the fear level of negative evaluation of grade three students is significantly higher than that of grade one and grade two students;the fear level of negative evaluation of the only child was significantly lower than that of the non-only child;the fear level of negative evaluation of junior high school students who have not been class cadres is significantly higher than that of students who have been class cadres;however,there was no significant difference in negative evaluation fears by gender.2.Social anxiety among junior high school students is at a moderate level,Rural students have significantly higher levels of social anxiety than urban students;the level of social anxiety of grade three students is significantly higher than that of grade one and grade two students;non-only children have significantly higher levels of social anxiety than only children;the level of social anxiety of junior middle school students who once worked as class cadres was significantly lower than that of students who never worked as class cadres;however,there was no significant difference in social anxiety by gender.3.There was a significant positive correlation between the fear of negative evaluation and the total score and each dimension of social anxiety among ju nior high school students;Fear of negative evaluation can significantly positively predict the total score and each dimension of social anxiety4.The scientific and effective group counseling designed to reduce the fear of negative evaluation can effectively reduce the fear of negative evaluation of junior high school students and further reduce the level of social anxiety. |  | Keywords/Search Tags: | Middle school students, Interpersonal, Fear of negative evaluation, Social anxiety, Social Anxiety |   PDF Full Text Request |  Related items  |
