Academic anxiety refers to the negative state in which students frequently experience negative emotions such as tension and anxiety during learning.Serious academic anxiety not only has a negative impact on students’ study and life,but also be harmful to students’ physical and mental health.In middle school,students’ academic performance has become an important indicator to evaluate students,and academic anxiety caused by academic pressure has become a major problem affecting the mental health of middle school students.For middle school students,this study focuses on the mechanism and risk factors of academic anxiety,aiming at formulating scientific and effective prevention and intervention programs.Therefore,the following two studies have been carried out:In the first study,1,320 middle school students were tested by questionnaire.The results showed that:(1)Parental psychological control,academic anxiety,fear of failure,and fear of negative evaluation were all at high levels among middle school students.(2)There were significant differences in the power dictatorship dimension of parental psychological control for middle school students by gender,and significant differences in the guilt-triggering and power dictatorship dimensions of parental psychological control for middle school students by grade level.And there were significant differences in academic anxiety,fear of failure,and fear of negative evaluation among middle school students in terms of gender,place of origin,and grade level.(3)There was a significant positive relationship between parental psychological control,academic anxiety,fear of failure,and fear of negative evaluation among middle school students:parental psychological control significantly positively predicted fear of failure and academic anxiety,and fear of failure significantly positively predicted academic anxiety.(4)Fear of failure played a part of intermediary role between parental psychological control and academic anxiety of middle school students,and the prediction of parental psychological control on fear of failure was regulated by fear of negative evaluation.In the second study,40 students with high levels of fear of failure and academic anxiety were randomly divided into experimental group and control group.The experimental group were given group counseling intervention with the theme of fear of failure,while no intervention measures were taken for the control group.The results showed that group counseling can effectively inhibit the fear of failure and then reduce academic anxiety.The study revealed the mechanism of action between parental psychological control and academic anxiety of junior middle school students,as well as the mediating role of fear of failure and the moderating role of fear of negative evaluation,and provided a new solution to reduce academic anxiety and improve psychological health of middle school students.
