Most college students have not yet completed their self-identity and may not have constructed a solid personal value system.Yet their self-awareness is developing rapidly, and they are easily influenced by and pay attention to external evaluations.Strong fear of negative evaluations can endanger individuals’ psychological health, cause excessive stress burdens and strong anxiety, and have a negative impact on the development of resilience. But self-compassion can help people enhance their rational perception of negative events and regulate negative emotions. However,no studies have been conducted to investigate the role of self-compassion in the pathway of the effect of the fear of negative evaluation on anxiety. Therefore, this study adds the protective factor self-compassion and the risk factor perceived stress to this influence mechanism. And to design a targeted group psychological counseling intervention program for reducing anxiety in people with high fear of negative evaluation. This study consists of two parts:Study 1 used the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale, the Self-Compassion Scale, the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Generalized Anxiety on 844 college students, and found that:(1)The level of fear of negative evaluation,self-compassion and anxiety among college students were moderately high in general, and the level of stress perception was moderate in general.(2)Fear of negative evaluation significantly and positively predicted anxiety.(3)Self-compassion and perceived stress mediated the relationship between fear of negative evaluation and anxiety,respectively.(4)Self-compassion and perceived stress play a chain mediating role between fear of negative evaluation and anxiety.Based on the chain mediation model of Study 1,Study 2 selected 22 college students with high fear of negative evaluation from Study 1.Divided them into intervention and control groups. And conducted 8 weeks of self-compassion group counseling for the intervention group and no experimental manipulation for the control group. The scores of the corresponding scales were measured before and after the intervention. And the effect of self-compassion group counseling on reducing the anxiety of college students with high fear of negative evaluation was investigated through analysis. The results showed that the self-compassion group counseling intervention significantly increased the level of self-compassion and reduced perceived stress and anxiety in college students with high fear of negative evaluation. Conclusion: Self-compassion and perceived stress play a chain mediating role between fear of negative evaluation and anxiety. The self-compassion group counseling intervention significantly increased the level of self-compassion and reduced perceived stress and anxiety in college students with high fear of negative evaluation.
