| The Reference Framework for Teaching Chinese Culture and National Conditions for International Chinese Language Education states that learners of Chinese at the junior high level need to “identify the characteristics of Chinese clothing in terms of color and style,and understand the main characteristics of traditional Chinese clothing in terms of color and style”.This shows that the teaching of traditional Chinese dress culture is also an important part of international Chinese language education.This paper uses the experiential culture teaching model as the theoretical basis to design a Chinese culture curriculum based on the form of Chinese costume,the style of Chinese costume and how to wear it,the accessories of Chinese costume,and the basic etiquette of Chinese costume compared with that of Thailand,using the fifth grade students of the public Wen Yi School in Chonburi province.Experiential teaching is the focus of this paper.Based on the theoretical basis of the experiential culture teaching model,I designed this Chinese costume culture class into four stages,including perceiving Chinese costume culture—knowing Chinese costume culture — understanding Chinese costume culture — comparing the basic etiquette culture of Chinese and Thai costumes.In response to the existing Chinese language level of the study participants,the author selected teaching contents that were suitable for their Chinese learning level and designed various experiential activities related to Chinese costume culture.By using teaching aids such as physical costumes,multimedia,pictures and word cards,this teaching content can be integrated into the experiential activities as much as possible.By participating in such Hanfu experience activities,immersing in the culture of Hanfu through multi-sensory stimulation such as sight,touch and sound,the research participants can have a more intuitive and deeper understanding of Chinese culture,which can,to a certain extent,reduce their prejudice against Chinese culture,and spontaneously engage in a series of activities such as“describing,explaining,understanding,generalizing and comparing” to practice Chinese,thus promoting their Chinese learning.In addition,the author conducted a questionnaire survey on the research participants before the class to find out their level of knowledge about Chinese costume culture and their expectations for this Chinese costume culture class.After the lesson,the author conducted a cultural test and a post-lesson interview.Based on the postlesson feedback,the author summarized the strengths and weaknesses of the Chinese costume culture class and made corresponding teaching suggestions in the hope of providing some reference for the teaching of costume culture in international Chinese education in the future. |
