Singing Analysis Of The Aria "Monica’s Waltz"

The soprano aria “Monica’s Waltz” is selected from the widely circulated opera“The Media” by Gian Carlo Menotti,one of the most representative Italian-American modern opera composers.Its author and opera are very distinctive,but what is more attractive is its singing form of one person playing two roles.This paper intends to explore the shaping of different characters by analyzing the image and singing technique of the two characters in “Monica’s Waltz”.This article is divided into three parts.First,it is an overview of the composer Menotti’s life creation,the background story of the opera where the music is located,and the lyrics and music of the song itself;Secondly,it analyzes the characters of the two roles in the song,the use of singing techniques and piano accompaniment;Finally,through listening to and practicing the same work,enjoy and learn how to deal with the details of the song.
