A Study On The Re-translation Of French Litterateur From The Perspective Of Ecological Translation

Camus’s L’(?)tranger is world-renowned for its in-depth exploration of the absurd in existentialist philosophy,and has been hailed as "an epochal work of 20 th century Western literature".Since the 1980 s,more and more scholars have joined the study of Camus,which has led to a boom in the study of L’(?)tranger,with more than a dozen Chinese translations.In this context,the phenomenon of literary re-translation and the strategies behind it have attracted the attention of scholars.The primary aim of this thesis is to investigate the translation ecology of L’(?)tranger and its Chinese translation and the translation strategies of different translators.To achieve this aim,this thesis takes the Chinese translation of L’(?)tranger by three French scholars,namely Liu Mingjiu,Guo Hong’an and Zhang Yiqiao,as examples,and delves into the translation ecology of the book,relying on Hu Genshen’s translation theory of ecological translation.Through the comparative analysis of the three dimensions,the paper finds that Liu Mingjiu’s translation strategy pay attention to “language” rather than“communication”,with the reader’s reading experience as the ultimate criterion.Guo Hong’an,on the other hand,emphasizes "communication" rather than "language" and takes consistency with the original text as the criterion.Zhang Yijiao lay emphasis on the "cultural" and takes the demonstration of personal linguistic characteristics and understanding of the work as the criterion.The article also offers suggestions and prospects for future Chinese translations of French literature in terms of theoretical support,knowledge reserves and linguistic competence.
