| The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)further condenses the core competencies of English teaching,and proposes that teachers should implement the "student-oriented" teaching concept in English teaching,take the concept of English learning activities as the guide,and implement the educational goals of English subjects.The concept of English learning activities provides guidance and direction for teachers to explore efficient education and teaching models.At the same time,the curriculum standards also clearly stipulate the amount of reading,reading comprehension level and the use of relevant reading strategies that students at each key level in the compulsory education stage should achieve.Students are encouraged to use broad,in-depth and sustained English reading behaviors to acquire a variety of information and cultural knowledge,develop language skills,develop effective learning strategies and thinking skills,and promote the formation of positive emotional attitudes and values.Based on this,this study takes “the concept of English Learning Activity" as the guide,and takes two classes with equivalent fourth-grade English reading ability in a school in Chengdu as the experimental subjects,and explores the following four questions through questionnaires and tests:(1)What is the impact of reading teaching based on the concept of English learning activities on students’ decoding ability?(2)What is the impact of reading teaching based on the concept of English learning activities on students’ language knowledge?(3)What is the impact of reading teaching based on the concept of English learning activities on students’ reading comprehension?(4)What is the impact of reading teaching based on the concept of English learning activities on students’ cultural awareness?During the experiment,the experimental class will complete a four-month reading lesson in the reading teaching mode based on the concept of English learning activity.Two questionnaires,English discourse reading assessments,and comprehensive English tests will be conducted before and after the experiment,aiming to collect valid data and explore the changes in students’ abilities before and after the experiment.It is found that reading teaching based on English learning activity concept can effectively improve students’ reading ability.Specifically,it is manifested in the following four aspects: in terms of decoding ability,after the experiment,students’ phonics ability and fluency in reading discourse have improved,among which the improvement of phonics ability is particularly obvious.In terms of language knowledge,students have a firmer grasp of English vocabulary,grammar and discourse,and their understanding is more thorough,and students’ comprehensive use of language knowledge is more accurate and reasonable.In terms of reading comprehension,students can better understand and master reading materials in limited classroom time,and at the same time,students’ reading comprehension ability to obtain information according to charts,speculate on word meaning,summarize the main idea according to titles,covers and other information,and extract,infer and summarize text information is also improved.In terms of cultural awareness,after the experiment,students have a keener awareness of the differences between Chinese and foreign cultures,and some students begin to have the awareness of comparing the two cultures and making subjective and objective judgments.On this basis,the author also puts forward suggestions for English reading teaching based on the concept of English learning activities,which aims to help primary school English teachers improve the effect of reading teaching and improve the reading ability of primary school students. |
