Research On The Japanese Versions Translation Of Strategies And Methods For The CLW In Li Sao Based On Culture Translation Theory

With the strengthening of international exchanges in medical field,translation of medical texts has become increasingly prominent.Although translation studies on medical texts have drawn attention worldwide,these studies mainly focus on the principles of medical translation or the specific translation problems and their methods,and pay less attention to the holistic research combining both the macro and micro levels.Consequently,it is necessary to carry out further discussion.Chesterman’s translation norm theory is commonly applied to the translation studies of literary works and political and economic texts,and is seldom used in research of medical translation.In fact,Chesterman’s translation norm theory can shed a light on the principles of medical translation as in this theory translation norms are believed to regulate the translation process and three professional norms are proposed for translators,i.e.,the accountability norm,communication norm,and relation norm.Meanwhile,Chesterman puts forward production strategies at the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic levels,which provides specific guidance for translators to deal with various difficulties in medical translation.In view of this,this paper analyzes the Chinese translation of a medical paper named Prospects for New Drugs to Treat Binge-eating Disorder from Chesterman’s translation norm theory,exploring both the norms of medical translation at the macro level and the concrete and efficient translation strategies at the micro level.According to Chesterman’s translation norm theory,this author of this report proposes that the accountability norm of medical translation means that the translator should take responsibility for the translation and make sure the accuracy of medical translation;the communication norm of medical translation is that the translator should convey the medical information to readers in smooth and logical language;the relation norm of medical translation means that the translator should reproduce the concise style of medical texts.Based on above translation norms of medical texts,the author also refers to production strategies proposed by Chesterman to explore the practical translation strategies for medical texts at the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic levels.At the syntactic level,the strategy of loan and calque is applied to the translation of most medical terminologies;the transposition strategy is adopted in the translation of some noun phrases collocated with prepositions;the strategy of unit shift is used in the translation of part of the noun phrases collocated with prepositions,“with” structures,and attributive clauses;the strategy of clause structure change is applied to the translation of some “with” structures and attributive clauses.At the semantic level,the strategy of abstraction change is adopted in the translation of some semi-medical words and abstract nouns.At the pragmatic level,the strategy of explicitness change is applied to the translation of some “with” structures and attributive clauses;the strategy of interpersonal change is used in the translation of first-person pronouns;the strategy of visibility change is adopted in the translation of new terminologies.Under the guidance of Chesterman’s translation norm theory,this thesis discusses the translation of medical texts from the translation norms at the macro level and the production strategies at the micro level,which is hoped to provide a useful reference for medical translation and its research.
