The left-handed material is one of the advanced artificial materils, and raised in latest years. The uniaxial anisotropic left-handed material is an important part of the left-handed materials. In order to make use of the uniaxial anisotropic left-handed material in the electromagnetic appliances, the characteristics of uniaxial anisotropic left-handed material must be systematically investigated. The electromagnetic characteristics of uniaxial anisotropic left-handed material and the Goos-Hanchen shift of this material film are investigated for the situation of that there is an angle between optical axis and the interface of the material in this paper. The characteristics of the guided modes in a uniaxially anisotropic left-handed material slab waveguide are also studied in this paper. The main points are as follows:The dispersion equations for E-polarized plane waves and H-polarized plane transmitted in the uniaxial anisotropic left-handed material are derived for the situation of that there is an angle between optical axis and the interface of the material waves.Based on the dispersion equations, the negative refraction and anomalous total reflection are analyzed for the case that electromagnetic waves are incident from isotropic right-handed material into uniaxially anisotropic left-handed material. The characteristic of amplifying the evanescent waves is investigated. Polarization beam split property of this material is also investigated finally. For both cases of that the total reflection occurs and partly reflection occurs, the Goos-Hanchen shift at the surface of a uniaxially anisotropic left-handed material film is investigated, for the situation of that there is an angle between the optical axis and the incident surface of the material. The expressions of the Goos-Hanchen shifts are derived. The Goos-Hanchen shift is also invstigated when the transmitted wave resonances.A composed rhomboid prism is designed. The refraction conditions are analyzed. The Goos-Hanchen shifts of the reflected and transmitted wave at the inner interface are investigated. The influences of the incident angle and the angle between the optical axis and the interface are invatigated. Finally, the potential applications of this prism are briefly discussed. The characteristic equations of the guided modes in a uniaxially anisotropic left-handed material slab waveguide are derived. Baed on the characteristc equations, the fast and slow wave characteristics of the un-surface wave and surface modes are investigated. The solutions of the characteristic equation of the surface wave modes are discussed in detail. The orthogonality relations of the guided modes are proved.
