The physicochemical characterization was made in depth using various techniques for some resin matrices of advanced composites, such as epoxy resin matrix, phenolic resin matrix and bismaleimide resin. These techniques include infrared spectroscopy (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), mass spectroscopy (MS), liquid chromatography (LC), thermal analysis (TA) and other techniques. The composition, structure, molecular weight, reactivity, reaction temperature and other properties related to performance of resin matrix were studied. The curing reaction mechanism and kinetic were investigated for the resin matrix. The mechanism of thermal decomposition and the kinetic were analyzed for bismaleimide resin.Evaluation of glass fiber/epoxy prepreg, aramiel fiber/epoxy prepreg and glass fiber/phenolic prepreg quality during storage was made using physicochemical analysis methods. The relation between reactive groups content in resin matrix and exposure temperature and time was studied. The changes of the mechanical properties of the composites made by the prepregs at different stages of the storage were shown. The parameters of quality control for the prepregs were obtained.The source of uncertainty was analyzed in detail about the determination of the epoxide index for epoxy resins by infrared spectroscopy, the determination of the temperature and the heat of the curing reaction for epoxy resins by differential scanning calorimetry, the determination of the hydroxymethyl index for phenolic resins by infrared spectroscopy and the reverse phase method of the high performance liquid chromatography for phenolic resins. The uncertainties of these testing methods were determined. Some applied tests were carried out.
