The whole thesis covers the following four parts: index feature extraction, body recognition, basic block designing and B-R-B system designing. In the former three parts, an academic model was up-built The main results obtained can be summarized as follows:(1) Body genes were obtained by studying on body conformation, clothing structure and body geometry character. According to these genes, feature indexes of woman body can be extracted as P, A, M, N. P is the proportion of bust ciromiference to body length. A is the proportion of bust thickness to bust width. M and N are Body flex indexes.(2) Fuzzy clustering and recognition is an appropriate method to clustering and recongizing woman body. Twenty-seven samples whose categories are known were selected to get the standard feature indexes matrix and the best fuzzy recognition matrix. The difference between the result of fuzzy recognition to subjective estimation is 11.1%.(3) According to the standard feature indexes matrix, women's body were divided into thirty-six groups. In each group, women have one kind of basic blocks which is different to any other kinds. The study comprises three parts: equations of bust width (Yf) and bust circumference, equations of neck width (x) and bust circumference , the influence of "R" on dart design and adjustment on basic blocks by "M" and "N"(4) A woman body recognition and basic block design system was made in order to validate the academic model. The system has four function modules: body measuring, client database, recognition dealing, basic block protracting.Body measuring is a sub-system to get the measurement of body from a group of image. From each image, the coordinates of edge points are recorded. B-spline curves are used for approximating cross sections. These contours indicate not only the circumferences but also the shapes of the cross sections. The computer can also automatically measure the maximum width and height of a cross section contour. If one select any height optionally where the cross section is needed, the computer can plots the contour and cutouts the girth. The difference between the measurements by this system to that by using a measuring tape is no more than 2%.
