Because of the complexity of body shape, different body requests different pattern. To improve the fitness of garments, it is important to analyze body form. On the basis of body analyzing, put the bodies that are similar with each other into one group, then establish the different basic blocks according to the different body sorts. This thesis carried out a study just based on this idea.The whole thesis covers the following two parts: body classifying, basic block designing. The main results obtained can be summarized as follows:(1) The survey of body measurement of women had been made with Non-contact Body Measurement System in this study. Body shapes of women were analyzed after disposing the anthropometric data by applying the statistic software SPSS 11.0. In this paper, some partial figure characteristics, such as should, bust, bust to waist, waist to hip, back, are also analyzed, and the relationship between body shape and garment pattern was studied.(2) Through principal component analysis, five factors were taken as principal components, and their accumulative contribution rate is 74.592%. Based on the theory of feature choosing in mode recognition, three feature indexes were extracted as S, X, Q. S is the proportion of body length to bust girth. X is the difference between bust girth and waist girth. Q is the proportion of the back length to the length of front centerline. According to the three feature indexes, women's body shapes were classified.(3) In the three feature indexes, X can be divided into four grades according to the National Standard of Clothing Sizing. The classification of feature indexes S and Q is not clearly, and no practice experience can be used for reference. So, fuzzy clustering analysis was applied in the body shape classifying. A model of fuzzy clustering was set up. Using this model all samples were clustered into nine groups by feature indexes S and Q. Then combined with feature index X, women's body shape can be classified into thirty-six groups. In each group, women have one kind of basic blocks that are different to any other kinds.(4) The anthropometric data was classified based on the different body sorts.Taking body height and bust girth as independent variables, a series of linear regression equations were obtained in each body sort. Then, the basic blocks of different body shapes were established.
