With the deepening of reform and opening to the outside world, the production level of our country's mechanical manufacturing enterprises has been improved greatly. A lot of factories have purchased the NC machine tools. In the automatic workshop, the new NC machine tools and the old ones coexist. As the purchase time and the types of the NC machine tools are different, the numerical control systems of the NC machine tools are also different, so the data transmission interface and the protocol are also different. In the past, most NC machine tools are used alone. As the improvement of the production management level, and the maturity of applying CAD/CAM technology, it is necessary to utilize the computer and network technology to link CAD/CAM system with the NC machine tools for realizing the transmission of NC program, improving the productivity of the NC machine tools and meeting the demands of DNC production management.Through investigations, we have found that the memory capacities of the numerical control systems with the most of machining centers are few, and the program restart function hasn't been disposed, the complicated mould parts are machined only by the DNC way. While the processing within several hours and several tens hours,the perturbation( such as knife broken, power failure, etc.) can not be avoided. Once the processing is cut off, NC program should be executed from the beginning. The part processing time should be increased doubly and the equipment productivity will be reduced greatly. Developing the program restart function of machining centers is required by many enterprises.For satisfying the market demands of many varieties and small batches products, manufacturing technology has been developed quickly. The past non-automatic workshop with routine equipments has already been changed into the automatic workshop with the integrated characteristics of CAD/CAM, MIS, FMS and DNC. As the processing tasks are variable, the processing route will be changed, and the demanded equipment resources will also be different. So it will lead to the fact that the load of some equipment is heavy, but the utilization ratio of other equipment is not high. The traditional organization mode is to fix the equipment resources in one manufacturing unit, which can't meet the need of the actual production. It is necessary to study the new manufacturing organization and management mode of automatic workshop. In view of above-mentioned problems, the author researched the integrated DNC control of the different type numerical control system and the workshop management system based on DNC. As a project director or major researcher, the author has completed 4 projects, such as the 863/CIMS project "Research of integrated manufacturing management system based on DNC plug-in software technology", the military project "Development and practice of DNC integrated system in accurately processing workshop", and etc. These projects have been appraised or confirmed. Among them, the 863/CIMS project "Research of integrated manufacturing management system based on DNC plug-in softerware technology" has been appraised by State Education Commission and the achievement reaches the international mostadvanced level, and we got the first-class prize of Chongqing's scientific and technological progress in 1999; The project "Research of the program restart function of machining centers using the DNC way" of Chongqing's Scientific and Technological Commission has been tested and appraised by Chongqing's Scientific and Technological Commission and the achievement reaches and leads competence at home, and we got the third-class prize of Chongqing's scientific and technological progress in 2002. As one of the achievements, "Distributed communication device of numerical control equipment" has obtained the national practical new-type patent.
