Realizing the rolling of free standing order is to improve the production efficiency and the flexibility of mill, and developing the control technology of shape is to improve the quality of shape, which are important directions of technology development of modern plate and strip mill. The on-line grinding technology of work roll is a new technology developed for realizing the rolling of free standing order and improving the shape control capability of mill. It is necessary to measure the roll profiles before and after grinding in order to grind roll to requested shape and so the on-line measuring technology of roll profile is given birth and is developed quickly.The on-line measure of roll profile is the measure to the surface profile of roll under the condition that mill operates normally. For hot rolling, roll profile is the important condition of realizing shape control. The roll profiles of hot continuous mills are measured real time and accurately, then roll is grinded on-line and accurately, which is the key of realizing the rolling of free standing order, improving the quality of product and the capability and the efficiency of mill. Therefore, for nearly years, the on-line measure of roll profile has been a key technology of improving the shape quality of rolled strip of hot continuous mills.The on-line grinding roll equipment was introduced into the finishing mill group of 1580 hot strip continuous rolling mill of hot rolling plant of baosteel group corp., but the assorted on-line measuring system wasn't introduced into at the same time. In this paper, on-line measuring system of hot rolling roll profile depended on the project is developed. Theoretical and experimental studies the technology of on-line roll profile measuring are introduced.The locating device that it can be doing radial mation and used to measuring the on-line roll profile at installing situation of OPM prepared by the 1580 hot strip continuous rolling mill on-line grinding roll equipment is developed. It can be installed the electric eddy current range finder or the ultrasonic range finder on the device. And it has merit that it can be used to calibrate sensors respectively before every time of measuring and to adjust them to their optimal working positions for measuring compared with the original OPM device.The hot rolling environment is very hard, the field disturbance is very large, but the required accuracy of roll profile measuring is very high. Therefore, the electric eddy current range finder mode and the ultrasonic range finder mode are selected as the investigated subjects based on analyzing and comparing domestic and foreign existing on-line roll profile measuring modes. The analysis of principle and the comparison of experiment are conducted for the two roll profile measuring modes, and finally the on-line roll profile measuring mode of the electric eddy current range finder mode is picked on.The roll profile on-line measuring system is established. By the data link system, this system uses the software system of industrial controlling computer to control the radial motion and location system before measuring, for realizing the calibration of sensors and the accurate closed-loop control of locking sensors at the time of reaching the optimal measuring distant before measuring, and uses the automatic collection mode or the triggering collection mode to collect the data of sensors during measuring.A 1:5 simulation work condition experiment system and a 1:1 simulation work condition experiment system are established. Under the simulation work condition, the factors influencing on the measuring accuracy in the process of roll profile on-line measuring are researched by experiment in detail, the influence of the factors on measuring results is obtained.
