With the advance of science and technology, the request for the wheel gears is higher and higher in many realms ,such as the industry manufacture, military and probing ones . As the key or important foundation pieces of large equipments, large wheel gears are extensively applied. The development of the technology of large wheel gears manufacture leads to the necessity and importance of precise measuring of large wheel gears. However, the manufacture technology is restricted by the development of measuring accuracy. Thus, the technique of the measuring must exceed that of manufacture to promote the exaltation of the technology of the manufacturing among which the measuring of the cumulative pitch error is much more important. The request of the modern industry to the spread steady of the wheel gear is very high. If the spread steady of the wheel gear can meet the request, the noise can be effectively reduced, the accuracy of processing increased and the life span of the wheel gear prolonged.This object is mainly about the measuring and evaluating for the total cumulative pitch error of the gears whose diameter are above 2.5 meter. It includes the review of the development of gears and the national and international research about the big gear measuring technology. Furthermore, the correlative conceptions and measuring technology of gear total cumulative pitch error have been analyzed and compared in detail .The main contents are as follows.(1) The program to construct the measuring device of the total cumulative pitch error has been designed through the opposite measuring method. Furthermore, the accurate unified geometric eccentric was measured to prove that the installation precision can meet the needs of measuring the big gears with precision class 8.(2) The software for the total cumulative pitch error measuring system has been generally designed. Based on the OOD philosophy, the measuring software has been designed and the exact data acquisition and analysis have been fulfilled after the functions needed by the software analyzed. (3) Error compensation has been fulfilled after the pitch error resources that influencing the measuring result of the big gear total cumulative pitch error has been analyzed. After analyzing the error resources which may influence the measuring results in the measuring process, the author may choose the optimal methods to compensate so as to obtain the most accurate measuring data. Especially, after the compensation for the total cumulative pitch error that is caused by device unified geometric eccentric, an experiment has been carried out to validate the feasibility and the rationality of the error compensation method.(4)The relevant method of measuring the uncertainty degree has been adopted. With the important scaling standard for the measuring device precision, the combined standard uncertainty and expanded uncertainty of the big gear total cumulative pitch error measuring system have been evaluated.
