Synthesis Of Benzocyclobutene Monomers And The Studies On Their Polymer Performance

Benzocyclobutene(BCB) resins are a large family of high-performance thermosets, and have been broadly used in microelectronic industry and aerospace fields due to their excellent properties in low dielectric constants, low dissipation factor, low moisture picking-up, film planarization and high thermal-stability. In this dissertation, the development of BCB monomers and BCB resins and their applications are reviewed firstly. An efficient route to benzocyclobutene(BCB) has been developed under the conditions of high temperature and high vacuum from the simple initial materials. The yield of BCB is higher than the patent reports under the similar conditions. Several important intermediates of BCB containing amino, carboxyl and bromo substituent have been synthesized in a good yield. And they can be used to fabricating many kinds of bisbenzocyclobutene(bisBCB) monomers. A novel and efficient route to aryl bridged bisBCB monomers has been reported in this work. At the same time, the polymerization of these type monomers, the properties of homopolymer or copolymer including thermal-stability and film surface appearance have been studied. Moreover, the preparations of vinyl bridged bisBCB monomers and pre-polymerization and polymerization of DVS-BCB monomers have been investigated. Also the properties of the polymer have been studied by TGA, DSC and AFM. Finally, some novel BCB derivates containing the squaric acid unit have been synthesized and we expected they can be used as polymeric electroluminescent materials. The researches explored the preparation method of some kinds of BCB monomers successfully. And some of the polymer performances have been studied, too. The results established the basis for the further use of the BCB resins in many fields in our country.
