The paper investigates systemically the oxidation of low temperature of coal and the process of the spontaneous combustion with the methods of the theory, experiment and computer simulation. Many high precise apparatus are used to measure the quantity of oxygen absorption, the quantity of released heat, the rate of change of weight, etc. at different temperatures in the whole oxidation process. The research finds out the relationships of the quantity of oxygen absorption and the quantity of released heat with the temperature and humility. With respect of the rate of the coal's spontaneous susceptibility, the research illustrates the un-rationality when using the quantity of the oxygen absorption at one temperature to show susceptibility and its depending mainly on the number of molecule with reaction activation value and the rate of the activation of the molecule. The investigation works out the kinetics mechanism functions of coal at different oxidation phases. Making use of the index(q'T) of the rate of oxygen absorption at the temperature interval 100-200℃, the paper advances the evaluation method of the spontaneous susceptibility of coal, the primary solution of the rank division in the spontaneous susceptibility of coal and the experienced formula in calculating the firing time of coal bed. The paper advances the concept of "the shortest time of firing of coal in experiment". In the research, a small adiabatic oxidation oven(G≈1.5kg) is used first and succeeds in measuring the value of the shortest time of firing of coal and setting up the mathematic model of the shortest time of firing of coal. According to the database outputting the results with thermal data, the researcher develops the software used in many parameters calculation in the process of the spontaneous firing. Using the dynamic simulation subprogram of the software in the process of the spontaneous firing, the research had a correct forecast in dealing with the spontaneous firing of the fully-mechanized longwall and top-coal caving face in Xuzhuang Coal Mine to insure mining safely on the working face.
