Greater mining height mining technique is one of the important development directions of the thick coal seam mining process. The thick coal seam exists in many mining areas in China, such as Jincheng, Luan, Datong, Yangquan, Xingtai, Xuzhou, Yunzhou, Fuxin, Shenfu and Dongsheng coal field. Under this coal seam condition, the greater mining height mining is the preferred method. The greater mining height mining is higher in resource recovery rate, better in coal quality, high in output and efficiency and good economic benefit. The many-year greater mining height practice in China shows that side fall and roof flaking are easier to occur in coal face of greater mining height, and the accident rate of support stability is higher, these factors affect the exertion of the production potential of coal face of greater mining height, and no good effects are obtained by applying greater mining height technique in many coal face. There are a lot of reasons to affect the development of the greater mining height, in which failure of surrounding control theory to guide the production is one of main reasons. At present, there is no systematic and scientific surrounding control theory. Some current researches are scattered and partial, which can not explain the problems occurred in the greater mining height practices, moreover, there is one complete surrounding rock control program, and the evaluation research on the application condition of greater mining height is not deepened. So, rapid...
