| After decades of examination and extension, Inclined long-wall mining had became one of the important mining methods for inclined coal seam. However, with the up-dip angle and mining height’s increasing, the possibility of coal wall spalling also increases.Thus it has a direct impact for the safety and high efficiency mining work. Especially when the angle of up-dip exceeds a certain value, roof structure is different from the flat dipping beds or along strike longwall. The rib spalling exacerbating increases the difficulty of roof management and transportation. The rib spalling is always the key problem of the up-dip mining with great height. The study for rib spalling law of up-dip mining with great height has a direct effect to the safety and high efficiency mining work. By using the simulation experiment, theoretical analyses and field observations with numerical computation analysis, the article analyzes the mechanics principle and form of rib spalling. The rib spalling of up-dip mining with great height is related to the up-dip angle, mining height, depth, and working resistance of support, end distance, factors such as coal friction. Contrasting the results of numerical simulations reveals the intrinsically law between those factors and rib spalling.
