Iron & steel is regarded as the primary raw material in national economy and social development. It is the supporting industry in modernization development. Ferrous industry development has close relationship with BF (blast furnace) ironmaking. In the BF raceway, the sophisticated chemical reactions among the gases and the cokes create reductant CO with high temperature for the BF smelting. The gas stream has great influence on the shape, size and position of the BF cohesive zone and on the heating and steady falling of charging. It affects the total BF smelting.BF expert systems cannot finely and vividly reflect the inner physical and chemical stateof BF raceway. Owing to the complexity of the physical and chemical process in BF raceway, there was no strict raceway theory. The Virtual BF can provide the BF operator with the more accurate and more detailed physical and chemical state of BF interior. To develop the Virtual BF project, the study on BF raceway virtual technique has been started.Typical BF raceway mathematical models have been analyzed. Using the k-ε model and particle-trajectory model in the multiphase fluid theory, a cold three-dimensional turbulent model of BF raceway was established in case of the uncon-sidering physical heat transfer and chemical mass transfer. The numerical simulation of the mathematical model has been completed by using the CFX software. Appling the three-dimensional data visualization ability of CFX, The distributions of gas velocity, particle velocity and fluid pressure in the horizontal section through BF tuyere axes had been analyzed. It provided the help for the BF operator to undestand the gas-particle two-phase flows.A three-dimensional BF raceway cold model was founded according to the Re rule of the theory of similarity and modeling. A raceway cold model experiment was carried out by the three-dimensional Laser Phase Doppler Analyzer's (PDA) syetem which was selected as the measurement system and processing system. The glass particles were also selected based on the Re rule. The average diameters of the particles which respectively simulated air and coke, are 30~40μm and 400~600 μm. The parameter of the particles, for example, their velocity, concentration, diameter, and so on, in the horizontal and vertical sections of the model were measured by the PDA system. The...
