Metallic complex formed by heterocyclic compounds or heterocyclic compounds as ligands have attracted extensive attentions in the fields of coordination chemistry, biochemistry, design of medicines and material science, due to their novel structures and unique functions. In this thesis, a series of functional heterocyclic complexes have been obtained by utilizing the known structural heterocyclic compounds to coordinate to metallic ion. Moreover, the crystals of a series of functional heterocyclic complex are obtained. The crystal structures of the heterocyclic ligands and part of metallic complex are determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The information of crystal structures from X-ray single crystal diffraction are utilized to search for the relationship between structure and function. Associating with the valence bond theory, the calculation of the quantum chemistry is applied for studying the electron transfer, energy transfer and spinning exchange between donor and acceptor. Furthermore, the molecular structures, crystal structure and functions of metallic complex are studied and summarized to develop all kinds of novel material with the potential application. The work to select part of metallic complex to react with DNA is in process. My works is described in below.1 The design and synthesis of novel compounds4,4′-Bipyridine is widely utilized to synthesize the metallic complex which are prospective applications in catalyst, molecular reorganization, and magnetic materials. However, with respect to the shorter distance of two N atoms of 4,4′-bipyridine, the channel surrounded by 4,4′-bipyridine and metal ion is relatively smaller, which limits their applications. Replacing 4,4′-bipyridine with flexible bridge-linked pyridine,the metallic complex with big channel and novel structure are obtained. In this thesis, three bipyridine analogs, N,N′-bis(4-pyridinecarboxamide)Piperazine (LA1), N,N′-bis(4-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,4-benzene(LA2),N,N′-bis(4-Pyridine- carboxamide)-1,6-hexane(LA3) were synthesized and characterized by elementary analysis, IR, and X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis.Benzimidazole and its derivatives, a kind of important heterocyclic compounds, have been extensively applied, owning to their unique topology, better properties in the fields of composite materials, electronic chemistry, metal anticorrosive agents, photosensitive materials as well as in biology and medicine.
