With the development of national economy and the advancement of science and technical, motorcycle, which is important traffic tool, is now becoming aesthetic, deluxe and comfort. Rim shows serialization and individualization as the significant component of motorcycle. At home and abroad, two machining modes are generally chosen for pore of rim spokes, one is light puncher machining and the other is rigid automatic processing. The former has the merit of good adaptability but with some disadvantages of low manufacture efficiency, poor machining accuracy and high reject rate; although the latter overcomes the deficiency, there are also some problems such as series equipment investment is great, processed product is single and so on. Can"universal machine"of rim machining be developed that combines all advantages and covers entire disadvantages? This is strong and urgent requirement of the market! Therefore, Chongqing Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering sets up scientific research projects and receives free aids fund from the Ministry of Science and Technology(project number: 01C26215110225). In this paper, used foreign advanced technology of homogeneous equipment for reference, consulted the basic principle of rigid rim and automatic indenting puncher that is developed by Chongqing Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering and the patent of three-cavity piston compound cylinder(patent number: ZL 00 2 45062.3), aimed at the grouping characteristic of series product of motorcycle rim, applied the basic connotative meaning of reconfigurable technology, innovation is implemented on design clue, entire allocation, mechanical structure, autocontrol and reconfigurable rim indenting puncher is developed successfully. Based on above works, in-depth research is made on reconfigurable tactics, multilevel reconfiguration mechanism and connotative meaning of reconfigurable machine, structure and transmission of asymmetric gear form chain is invented. Based on PID technique of simulation of hydraulic control system, theoretical research is made on indenting puncher's workhead and control system by applying autocontrol theory, finite element calculation and analysis. Model machine is manufactured to experimentize and launched for trial production. By five years research, research production that contains theoretical connotation and market value has been chieved.①After analyzed serialization parameters such as material, specification, netting requirement, hole dimension, hole grouping of rim products and experimental results, it is found that rim product family has preferable reconfiguration. Hereby, according to the basic connotation of reconfiguration, study on reconfigurable tactic of rim indenting puncher and development of prototype are done.②Multilevel reconfiguration pyramid model is presented and stepless regulating is brought to reconfiguration category, so reconfigurable technique is enriched. Reconfigurable tactic of rim indenting puncher is established successfully: for endless serialization of netting parameter, for instance, rim tangent-angle, pitching angle and offset use regulating reconfigurable tactic; for serialization of rim specification and hole dimension use alternative reconfigurable tactic; for serialization of hole grouping of rim spokes and machining of valve core use integral reconfigurable tactic; for serialization of rim material use innovative reconfigurable tactic; for order combination of above serialization parameter use regulating reconfigurable tactic, alternative reconfigurable tactic, integral reconfigurable tactic and innovative reconfigurable tactic sequentially.③According to triplex reconfigurable structure of rim indenting puncher based on innovation design of reconfigurable tactic, entire allocation can be processed for first-order reconfiguration according to hole grouping of rim spoke and machining requirement of valve core, punching module can be processed for second-class reconfiguration according to rim specification and netting parameter, punching wordhead module can be processed for triplex reconfiguration according to hole dimension, and it is can be satisfied by doing reconfiguration for indenting punching software module if rim material is changed. Research and practice show that this triplex reconfigurable structure can meet machining requirement of spoke bore that covers all specifications national stander GB/T13202—1997defines on rim machining. For special requirement of market consumer, machining can be completed only under the condition that it agrees the reconfigurable tactic.④Pointed at the special work condition that lifting imbalance load caused by and weight of traveling system, asymmetric gear form chain transmission(patent number: ZL 00 1 32060.2), as a result, engagement impact is released, anti-mechanics ascent ability is enhanced, the degree of tooth skipping is reduced, service life is prolonged and transmission efficiency is improved. Asymmetric gear form chain transmission has much superiority on transmission performance in the direction of main drive (ascend), meanwhile, it possesses basic performance of roller chain in the direction of counter drive (fall). ⑤Mathematical model is established against indenting puncher's workhead, finite element numeric analysis and experimental mode calculation are made base on the model, natural frequency is obtained as well as the mode under it. AMESim hydraulic simulation software is applied to establish the model and simulate the motion for hydraulic control system, and the dynamic behavior is analyzed. Comparative analysis shows: the natural frequency obtained from finite element mode calculation is almost conformity to experimental mode calculation and the error is less than 5%. As a result, the veracity of finite element mode calculation and experimental mode calculation is verified. It shows further that indenting puncher's workhead has preferred impact stability.⑥Two reconfigurable indenting puncher prototypes launch market and middle-small batch production has been made for materials, different specifications, different netting parameters and different core dimensions. It is shown that: prototype can satisfy flexibility requirement of existing rim serialization entirely. Furthermore, the reconfiguration is credible, the stability is good and the product accuracy is high. At present, research on reconfigurable machine is in beginning stage, the integral system of research has not formed, research is not profound and theory breaks through finitely. Although the title of this paper is reconfigurable rim indenting puncher, there is certain some distance to the true reconfigurable machine. Because some key technology is immature such as reconfigurable tactic, modularized machine structure, modularized controller and software, reconfigurable efficiency and reconfigurable cost and so on. In any cases, successful development of reconfigurable rim indenting puncher meets the requirement in middle-small batch mixed production, has the basic connotation of reconfigurable machine. Meanwhile, many prototypes work normally after launched market; it is prototype breakthrough of reconfigurable machine. It verifies and promotes the reconfigurable technology and it is useful for the lucubrating of reconfigurable technology.
