Study On Problems Of Ecological Consumption

Since human society comes into being, the process of civilization we have experienced is by nature a continued process of consuming the natural resources and releasing waste into the ecosystem. Human's material production must rely on various resources provided by nature. By people's special labor, these natural resources are turned into material products and social wealth, which can meet people's needs through consumptive process and thus maintain and promote human's reproduction and development. Therefore, the relation between man and nature, in a sense, is a relation between man's consumption and his development, exploitation and destruction of nature. In the face of serious resource crisis and the environmental crisis, though we can't say the change of the natural ecosystem is absolutely due to human's consumptive behavior, there is no doubt that human's consumption plays a very important role. The consumption problems resulting from improper consumptive behavior change our environment, eroding and affecting our social values seriously. The unlimited consumptive desire will inevitably result in conflicts between human and nature in logic and reality, leading to environmental crisis and exhaustion of natural resources. Therefore, we should change the traditional consuming mode and set up a kind of consuming mode which accords with ecological law, which is ecological consuming mode.Compared with traditional concept of consumption, ecological consumption is a completely new concept of consumption which is established on the basis of the appearance of resource squandering, environment pollution and severe imbalance of ecosystem. It combines human's consumption with the ecosystem and sticks to the belief that human's consumption should keep itself within the bounds of ecosystem and be consistent with the ecosystem. This concept of consumption is a reflection of sustainable development ideas in the field of human consumption. So research on ecological consumption will help us find a way to realize sustainable development from the perspective of human consumption.Starting from the idea that we can promote sustainable development by adjusting human's consumptive behavior, this article systematically explains the theories of consumption and the non-sustainability of traditional consuming mode., presents a new definition of ecological consumption and probes into the problems of ecological consuming mode and ecological consumer goods on the basis of ecological economics, ecological consumers, ecological ethics and sustainable development theory. Then by quantitative data analysis, this article sets up an evaluating system of ecological consumption and provides some suggestions for the implementation of ecological consumption throughout China.Motivation for research on ecological consumption is the ecological crisis faced by human beings, especially the sustainability of the consumption of industrialized societies. And its theoretical foundation is established by ecological economics and ethics, theory on sustainable development, and system theory, etc. Then the ecological consumption is defined both broadly and narrowly, illustrating the basic features and principle of ecological consumption and concluding that ecological consumption represents the demand of natural ecological instinct and a return of human nature.Ecological consumption is more than just a concept of consumption, it is also the real process of consumption. Ecological consumer goods are one of the important theoretical topics in the study of ecological consumption development. As the subject of ecological consumption, the ecological consumers have to recognize both ecological liability and social liability, because their consumption will produce external economic effects, aiming at an integration of ecological, economic and social subjects, resulting in a satisfaction of the ecological demand. This paper also makes suggestions on directing the ecological consumption by analyzing the subjects influencing their behaviors. After specifying the content of ecological consumption goods, the object of ecological consumption, this paper discusses the basic characteristics of the ecological consumption goods, providing evidence for distinguishing ecological consumption goods from ordinary consumption goods. It also discusses the shaping subjects for the price of ecological consumption goods. Because the price of ecological consumption goods is higher than the traditional consumption goods, which will hinder the supply of and demand for ecological consumption goods and restrict the ecological consumption, the paper analyzes the features and variation of the markets for ecological consumption goods by discussing the laws for commodity circulation and market. It also discusses the three possible forms of the market for ecological consumption goods, opening up a new way for solving the obstacles to the development of ecological consumption goods market.Consumption mode is an important expression of the consumption behavior. This paper defines the ecological consumption mode, discussing its basic features, the shaping subjects of the mode, the principle of the mode, and finally attempting the approach to establishing China's ecological consumption mode. It also discusses how to carry out ecological consumption in China, which needs the joint promotion of the government, enterprises and the public, exploring the necessary promotion methods by different parties after analyzing their different roles in the promotion.As a consuming activity, the process and results of ecological consumption can also be compared and evaluated. And the result will better convince people to actively change their traditional consuming mode into ecological consuming mode. In order to achieve this object, this article designs a set of evaluating indexes and ways to calculate the level of ecological consumption. Taking Jin Lin Province as the researching Object, the author makes a comparison between the figures in 2000 when the plan for ecological province construction had not yet begun and the figures in 2005 when the first stage of ecological province construction ended. The results prove that the ways of calculation and evaluation mentioned above are practical and the level of ecological consumption development in Jin Lin Province at different stages is worked out after a deep evaluation and analysis.
