Smart material structure is used in many fields, including military affairs, aviation and spaceflight, automobile and medicine, so smart material structure is a research hotspot and a trend of development. Now there are many results in design and manufacture of composite material parts, but the problem of embedding sensor has not been solved in the process of fabricating smart metal structure. Thus developing a new rapid prototyping for metal structure is the key problem.The parts made by welding prototyping consist of seam, so they are high consistency and intensity. And welding prototyping has a charactoristic of low cost. In order to solve the problems of welding prototyping based on TIG building-up Technology, and meet the demand of smart metal structure based on optic fiber sensing, the deposit trajectories and the scan spaces for welding prototyping are studied in this paper. The study is the theory reference for planning the deposit trajectory in the welding prototyping. The research works of the paper are as follows:1. The welding prototyping system is established in order to manufacture the samrt metal structure. The system consists of the machine of welding prototyping, quality control hardware and software, which is integrated slicing, planning on deposit trajectory, welding prototyping, quality inspecting and communication.2. STL model and its limitation are introduced in the paper. And topological information of STL model is established. Because the highness of the prototyping part is affected by the welding arts parameter, scan space and layers. According this, the arithmetic of adaptive error-tolerant slicing is brought forward. The highness of the prototyping part is acquired after welding every layer, and then slicing is carried through according the highness.3. According to the prototyping disfigurement in the processing of weld prototyping, the evaluation guideline and means for prototyping quality are brought forward. And the quality of the prototyping part is analyzed under different scan spaces by experimentation. The better scan space is acquired according the analysis. 4. According to the manufacture demand of the smart metal structure based on optic fiber sensing, numerical simulation of temperature field is analyzed for different deposit trajectory, welding speed, time interval.5. According to the characteristic of parts, several typical deposit trajectories used in the welding prototyping is brought forward. The influence of quality are analyzed under differ deposit trajectories using experimentation. Thus the best deposit trajectory is selected.6. The adaptive error-tolerant slicing software, deposit trajectories implement software, NC automatic program software, and control software of welding prototyping are developed by VC++.The deposit trajectory for welding prototyping has been validated by experiments in the system of welding prototyping, which is studied in this paper. The experiments show that the correct deposit trajectory which adapt to welding prototyping can be get by the study on planning of deposit trajectory.According the characteristic of welding prototyping, the arithmetic of adaptive error-tolerant slicing and the evaluation guideline for prototyping quality are brought forward. The influence of quality are analyzed under differ scan paths and deposit trajectories by experimentation. Thus the best deposit trajectory and scan space are selected.
