The present status of high-speed and great power diesel engine in China and the world was investigated. The necessity with the possibility of augmentation of TBD604B diesel was discussed also. The research direction was decided. The related research conditions and levels in China and world were analyzed. Under the special requirements (the construction keeps same with the original one) the main aim is to increase 10% output power of TBD604B. The design principle necessary improvements of every systems and research approaches were given.The flow-model of fuel system with constant pressure valve in the calculation program was established,and affects of constant pressure Valve was investigated in model research. The injection fuel pump with 2.5 mm diameter deliver pipe was analyzed and suitable for the power augmentation of TBD604B diesel according to the fuel injection pressure,fuel injection rate and duration of injection.Theories and method of the work process computation were presented in the paper. Double Vibe function law to get the calculation results of working process of TBD604B diesel and was consistent with experimental measuring results of combustion heat release of TBD604B diesel. This method is suitable for prediction of diesel performances and is satisfactory to meet the requirements. For the generator operation conditions of full range of loads optimization model was established and the model was solved by use of optimization computation approach. The optimum injection angle and timing diagram was obtained for the improved diesel. The experimental results showed that about 30 degrees of injection angle gave the lowest consumption of fuel.Based on the compound poly-power function cam profiler design method of optimum cam profile was investigated. Cam time profile of the original TBD604B diesel was analyzed and the cam profile was designed again by use of the method mentioned in this paper.Performance testing improved and higher power output TBD604B diesel was satisfactory. The 100-hour reliability testing and decomposing check showed that the power output of improve TBD604B diesel was 10% higher than the original one. The improve diesel run smoothly and had proper parameters. The parts of the unproved diesel are reliable and did not have obvious wearing. The specification of the new diesel met the requirements of MWM Co. the purpose of improving design was established. The new diesel extended the power range selected for marine electricity generation stations. The comprehensive performance of the unproved TBD604B diesel is advanced in China.
