This thesis is part of research works of the ninth five-year plan project of nationaldefence--"light weapon dynamic optimization , simulation and reliability designtechnology". The thesis lays emphasis on the study of the application of modern design methods, compute methods and numerical simulation technology to machine gun. The main contents are as follows:(1) The machine gun's common structure is introduced and the theory , process and modeling methods of machine gun FEA are discussed detaily; and a machine gun is modeled by finite element.(2) based on the detail analysis on soil models and machine gun firing dynamics, the Drucker-Prager model is introduced to study machine gun firing dynamics, the soil is modeled like a box by finite element. A gap element to connect soil and the gun is proposed.(3) A lumped parameter model with 18 parameters to represent luncher is proposed. (4) The characters of machine gun system's firing dynamics are simulated in the linearway and nonlinear way.(5) The thermal-stress coupled field in the barrel when machine gun firing successively is analyzed by way of FEA ; the results display that the main load in the barrel is thermal stress, and thermal stress is the main reason for the reduce of the barrel's life-span.(6) A new design method--dynamic robust optimum design method is introduced,and the application to firearms is discussed .
