ElectroRhological technology study for electrorheological effect and engineering application. Electrorheological effect refers to the situation in which the electrorheological property of a particular fluid (electrorheological fluid) acted upon an electric field will change. It normally refers to the phenomenon in which the resistance to flow and shear yield stress of ER fluid acted upon by an applied electric field will increase. The change of the ER property is of such features as promptly response time, convertible and wide range change, and continuous controllability. Controlling an applied electric field can regulate mechanical parameters of ER field. There have been great potential applications in engineering. To focus on the Study of electrorheological damper and characteristic of damping medium, following works have been completed: 1. The ER fluid's rheological behavior in the ER valve of an ERF damper has been analyzed and developed. Applying the theory of rheodynamics and hydraulic theory, the relationship of damping vs vibratory velocity and electric field strength has been set up. The relationship is valuable foundation for improving on the mechanism of ERF damper and studying the velocity property.2. In automobile suspension system, the dynamics model of ERF damper has been set up. The adaptive controlling strategy which is composed of the online identification of model parameters and the least-square-error self-tuning regulator is adopted to control the semi-active suspension system which is compose of ERF damper.3. The characteristic of electrorheological damping medium has been analyzed, the material of ER, dispersing particle, is key of ER fluid's performance. This paper analyzes synthetic condition of polyaniline particle. Other factors of influencing ER effect such as size and shape of particle, volume fraction, electric field strength, shear rate, temperature are discussed. Several theories of interpreting the mechanism of ER effect are introduced, polarization mechanism of particle isanalyzed.4. A new gas-filled ER damper is developed. The main structure parameter of influencing ER damper performance are discussed, some design principles of ER damper are given.5. The ER damper is tested in bench test according to national standard, including schematics of damping force vs. displacement of piston, damping force vs. velocity of piston ,etc. for different composition of ER fluids, gas-filled pressure, gap between inner and outside cylinder and temperature. The error of damping force between calculation and test is analyzed...
