The Urban Road Traffic Simulation System (URTSS) has working as a direct, convenient, flexible and effective tool for analyzing and evaluating the traffic engineering problem and research. It is applied to analyze traffic phenomena by combining computer simulation technology, road traffic demand analysis, pass capability analysis and traffic flow model. While Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is developing, URTSS, as one of the core contents of ITS, has been becoming a hot topic in the domestic and international field of traffic engineering.Based on the analysis of current urban traffic simulation and combine High Level Architecture (HLA), the lasted developed computer technology, a basic research on urban road traffic simulation was conducted. The Article will show the research result and present a new developed general Urban Road Traffic Simulation System (URTSS), in which maximum utilize the HLA theory and regulation of recycling and interactive operation.Following are the key topics of the this article:a) A traffic flow research on a typical jammed road of Beijing. Based on the research, the conclusion drew out a traffic flow map and the vehicle types description on every traffic flow direction of current traffic state (Normal Distribution and Poisson Distribution), which generates the traffic model.b) The frame structure of URTSS model. It includes urban road traffic net structure model, traffic flow generation model, vehicle run behavior model, and urban road traffic net analysis model. These models are designed based on the real urban road traffic element. It can be used as structural foundation of future URTSS model.c) Setting the functional models of URTSS. It includes urban road traffic net structure model, traffic generation model, vehicle behavior model (vehicle followed moving model, tightly followed moving behavior, regular exceed and changing line process, delaying model result from forced occupying and changing line), urban road traffic net analyse model. It utilizes the vehicle on-way timecomposition, time delay model in crossroad, road line selection, and optimized approach calculation by urban road traffic net analyse model.d) Setting a recycling URTSS federation based on HLA theory and regulation, as well as designing and developing the URTSS federal members. The federal members are Simulation process federal member and visible federal members, which are designed according to HLA federal members' regulation and divided according to simulation application functions.e) Demo samples of the URTSS developed based on HLA.
