The first chapter of the paper generally describes the current situation of domestic and abroad research and design of tunnel entrance landscape, clarifying that the organic connection of construction and landscape is the most important trend of current engineering design. As the buildings appear frequently in road and railway, entrance of tunnel has close relations with the surrounding natural and social environment. Thus, the design of landscape of tunnel entrance shall be an important content of entrance design. The paper explains the main contents and methods of the research, as well as the final objective of the research, establishing a referenced practical method for design of tunnel entrance landscape. The second chapter discusses the tunnel entrance landscape design and its concept in the angle of scenic, making a general description on the basic theory and research methods of scenic. Stresses are made in the introduction of behavioral ?psychology, scenic ecology, design techniques based on those theories, and application of scenic factors in research of tunnel entrance landscape design. This chapter raises the principle of design and considerable scenic factors in tunnel entrance, emphasizing in research of the concept and method of the tri-layers design, as well as the detail practices of point, surface and line patterns in layer design. That is one of the most important contents researched in the paper. The third chapter researches the organization of tunnel entrance landscape design database. It is the base of the methodology for practical design of tunnel entrance landscape. The database can be searched and is expandable, providing various design plans for similarlayout circumstances and plans for reference of problem-solving. It is a useful tool for engineering designers. The nearly 300 samples in the database include successful design domestic and abroad, as well as mediocre ones. The inclusion of the latter means to prevent those mediocre designs from appearing again in future. The samples of the database come from photos and publications. The fourth chapter introduces the main methods of landscape valuation, and suggests the adoptable methods' system of tunnel entrance landscape valuation. It clarifies the close connection between the valuation methods and the importance of design and engineering. A detail explanation is made for the suggestion of adopting the valuation system, which includes self-valuation, professional valuation, experimental psychology valuation and landscape effects valuation. The different valuation methods can be choosen by the engineering importance coefficient, it has been founded firstly in this article. The chapter explains the method of experimental psychology valuation in detail, as well as the method of sample production, computer simulation, especially the technique of landscape synthesis by digital cameras. The fifth chapter is the result of experimental research of tunnel entrance landscape design through practical cases. The research includes the factor-analysis, the general research on tunnel landscape, the effects of general landscape factors, the effects of outline curve and entrance shape on drivers' security and comfort by main component analysis and typical relevant analysis. Grounded on the results of those research, the chapter gives a design principle based on design valuation for the reference of tunnel entrance landscape design. The sixth chapter tries to establish a practical method of tunnel entrance landscape design, based on the above research and requirements. The chapter discusses the procedures and key points of design methods, such as digital photographing, image processing, choice of methods of valuation, and the practical implementation on real cases. The last chapter is conclusion.
