Due to its complexity, the design of a modern product is a production of applying multiple disciplines intelligence, generally involved the knowledge of electromechanic, hydraumatic, cybernation and information et al. With today's rapid development of information technology, the key unit for the success product design is how to effectively integrate the multiple disciplines knowledge under the assistant of computer technology. The collaborative supported methods and techniques are studied in this paper, the investigations focus on the following aspects:(1) The progress of the collaborative design and the optimal design are comprehensively analyzed, the small world networks of collaborative design are proposed, and the collaborative design framework is constructed with grid technology. This framework based on small world networks has characteristics of clustering coefficient and short path length. The remote intelligence resources can be seamlessly integrated in this framework, such as conception design, optimal design and the analysis of structural strength et al.(2) Optimal design has characteristics such as real time and mass computing, it is difficult for realization over internet. With current distributed object technology, the generalized optimization system over internet is firstly developed, some key problems of this system, including remote modeling, algorithm integrated with optimal platform, process control, concurrency control, are overcome. The collaborative optimization based on grid technology is proposed, the automatic scheduler of optimal tasks is realized, which improves optimization efficiency and quality.(3) The relationship of product data in collaborative design environments and the data flow of generalized optimization are studied in this paper, a product data model and data store method supporting collaborative design and generalized optimization are proposed. Employing the Web Services component technology, a Web-based PDM system is developed, which realize not only traditional PDM functions but also integration with generalized optimization seamlessly.(4) At last, illustrated with the motor brake system design, the cooperative process inner enterprise and among collaborative enterprise and between enterprise and institute are studied. The construction and applying of the intelligence resources over internet are discussed.
