The river model test research is one of the most important scientific research means for the river construction problem and the complex fluvial process with characteristics of three dimension. The downstream of Yellow River has the characteristics with high sediment concentration, incorresponding relation for coming water and sediment and intense river bed change. The river channel sways swiftly and didn't stable. The fluvial processing of Yellow River is complex and particular. The river model test is adopted firstly for important and complex river regulation. Other research means cannot instead of the river model test. The river model test is the main means for the research of the Yellow River problem. The research of key technology and simulation theory for the Yellow River physical model is the base of the harness the important Yellow River engineering problem. This is the important research subjects for modern harness of Yellow River and development of experimental hydraulic engineering.The means of theoretical analyses, numerical simulation and physical model experimental and verification had been used in the paper. According to theory of river bed revolution, river hypsography, hydrodynamics and resemble theory, the experimental methods and technology had been developed for the research of complex Yellow River hydraulic engineering problem . The rationality of the means had been verified by the physical model experimental research. The much new results had been reached for the theory of river harness and the law of river bed processing, such as yellow regulation and digging river. The much valuable scientific basis has been provided for the harness of downstream of the Yellow River. Based on the river hypsography system theory and similarity principle of river model test, the new design mean of "design in sections and transition treatment" has been developed for river model test with change of river types. The principle and method of artificial turns in physical model research has been designed and enforced downstream of the Yellow River with high sediment concentration, according to the principle of energy conservation and hydraulic method. The practical application of mobile river physical model has been reached for curved downstream the Yellow River. Based on the principle of fluvial process, the experimental mean of relax boundary has been developed with the help of numerical simulation method. The forecasting model of river bed revolution has been set up with the affect the boundary effect for river renovating engineering. The new mobile equilibrium boundary for river bed revolution has been gotten by numerical simulation. The new boundary condition by numerical simulation is made by artificial simulation in physical model and solve the extreme problem of renovating engineering. The these new model test theory and designed means had been applied into the physical model downstream of the Yellow River regulation and research of fluvial process. The problems of model test basis theory and key technology has been researched such as the mechanism of river channel renovating, channel silt sediment decrease by digging river, the key parameter of river regulation engineering design.The developed experimental physical model means of artificial turns and relax boundary has been applied successful practical engineering downstream the Yellow River. The research results has been adopted in the harness of downstream of the Yellow River.
