The Industrial Design View With "Post-Modernistic Turning"

In the 1960s, French contemporary philosopher Derrida put forward Deconstruction Thoughts. It became the prologue to post-modernism. This movement reflected the natural changes which was taking place in human society, politics and economy. For it incarnated the demand of the time, it was accepted quickly. Though there hasn't been a uniform and authoritative definition of it, many"post"schools emerged either as one falls, another rises, or run neck and neck. Also it pushed the argument and study of"post-modern"movement. The concerning ranges were gradually touching upon every field of human life, which has already been a global cultural sight.Particularly in the period of information society, the"post-modern"idea which was born with the influence of post-modern movement had more and more obvious impact on practical subjects. Take the industrial design field for example. With the development and widely applications of internet technology of computer, internet, multi-media and virtual reality made the objects and range of product design and the concepts and methods of design itself changed a lot. It was no longer concentrated on the physical design of product, but emphasized on"non-material"objects of product. All these provided more vast space for"post-modern"design thoughts, especially in the field of high technological product, at which"post-modern"design view almost become the only guidance thought of design.Based on this reality and deeply research into the internal and oversea study fruits, this paper tried to define"post-modern"turning idea only guide thoughts. It constructed a theoretical frame work,"post-modern"turning frame work. With the guidance of this idea, this paper concretely narrated and analyzed actuality and future development. Then it added the contemporary major design styles and their thought root to the frame work. It was written with the clue of"post-modern"turning. It used the approaches of combination of macroscopical narration and microcosmic analysis, theoretical reasoning and instance review to systemically narrate and demonstrate the new idea of relationship between"form"and"meaning"of product in industrial design. The paper stressed that"post-modern"turning here was not only a turning of historical period, but importantly it was a turning of thinking. The final part of the paper dealt with the discussion and construction of"post-modern"design language of industrial design in the period of"post-modern"turning times (especially 1990s, when information internet society was coming) from the aspects of connotation and denotation of"post-modern"design, idea of"post-modern", contents and arrangement of ideas of post-modern design and basic principles of"post-modern"design.
