| People are the subject of cities and the everyday life of urban people forms the multiple dimensions of urban life. As everyday life is always going on in certain space, the term "everyday living space" hence refers to the space occupied by the various activities in people's everyday life, only that it focuses more on the cultural and social attributes of space, i.e. the all-around interactive relationship between space and people. Besides its function of meeting people's living requirement and creating new life styles, everyday living space also contributes to the proper layout of urban public space and the transformation of urban social structure, therefore, its space mode and rules of evolvement plays a very important role in the construction of urban public space system.In view of that, this dissertation plans to employ the concept of "everyday life" to bring forth the concept of "everyday living space" and to construct its theoretical basis. Then, with this theoretical basis as guidance, with the change of people's life styles as the main clue and with the interaction between everyday living space and urban space mode as its main content, this dissertation makes a close study of the evolving process and historical change of Shanghai's urban everyday living space. One of the key points of this dissertation is to study urban everyday living space from a humanistic perspective. Under the guidance of the structuralization theory, the author studies the forming process and evolution-disciplinarian of everyday living space, with the aim of revealing the meaning and value of "everyday living space" and contributing some principle and strategy on urban construction from the perspective of the reconstruction of everyday living space.In addition to Introduction, this dissertation is divided into three parts with nine chapters. Part One is about the theoretical pattern of everyday life. Firstly, the author gives a theoretical definition of the term "everyday life", discusses the relationship between everyday life and mass culture, and based on this, explains the concept and classification of everyday living space as well as its position and function in urban space. Then, the author expatiates the concept of life style, talks about the influence of mass culture upon urban life style and the evolving and developing process of modern China's urban life style. Finally, a summarized introduction is given to thepopular history of the Shanghai urban citizens since the establishment of the port city and the forming and evolution of her urban everyday living space.Part Two is a historical analysis of everyday living space and also the dissertation's positive research part. Through the use of a large quantity of detailed and accurate data, the author summarizes the formation process of Shanghai's three types of everyday living space, i.e. urban residential space, leisure and entertainment space and consumption space, and their interaction with urban space mode. At the end of this part, the author analyzes the change of Shanghai's everyday living space from a political, economical and social perspective.Part Three is about the reconstruction of everyday living space. Based on the rational reflection and evaluation of today's urban construction, the author explores the theoretical conception and methodological system that could properly explain and serve the macro-background and realistic situation of Shanghai as well as China's urban social development. Based on the previous research result, the author attempts to raise his assumption on everyday living space construction. |
