Some Issues On Transport Operational Theory Of Passenger Railways

The construction of the high speed passenger railways is an important project to implement the great-leap-forward development and improve the service quality of the railway in China. As the roundly expandedness of the high speed passenger railways, the research on the station design, the operation mode, passenger flow organization and some correlative theories about the operation have been laid in the schedule. We must research these theories in advance to meet with the future need. At the same time, the transport organization work of the passenger railway must be passenger oriented, and pay attention to the investigation on passenger's activity to do better service for its main job is passenger transportation. With this idea in mind, the paper first studies the characteristics of passenger flow. Base on that, it studies the theory of maximum passenger assembling number, the model of making running plan, the model of passenger transfer organization and. the carrying capacity calculation method.(1) This paper investigates the types of the passenger railways' operation mode and the factors that influence the choice of the operation mode for the railways form passenger volume, economy, and the line's function, then sorts the high speed passenger railways of China into 3 types by their operation modes and make case studies with the passenger railways of Beijing-Shanghai line, Shanghai-Nanjing line, Wuhan-Guangzhou line and Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan line.(2) The investigation on the passenger characteristic is the basic of the other research of this paper. It sorts the passenger characteristic into three types as socioeconomic characteristic, gathering and dispersing characteristic and the need characteristic. The socioeconomic characteristic includes travel purpose, income level and occupation distribution. The gathering and dispersing characteristic includes distance distribution, arrival time distribution, waiting time distribution, travel modes choice, etc.. The passenger demand characteristic includes safety, rapidness, comfort, convenience and economy. This paper researches the above-mentioned characteristic deeply based on the field survey.(3) Based on the research on the existing calculating methods, this paper comes up with 3 new methods, namely, the worst situation methods and the computer simulation methods. According to the data by investigation, the paper makes the calculation of the maximum passenger assembling number (MPAN) of Beijing railway station, Beijing West railway station, Guangzhou East station and Zhangmutou station as its case study. By the study, it finds that not all the existing methods is suit for the calculation under the present condition, and the result of the new methods is a little more accurate. (4) This paper investigates the factors that have effects on the train running plan and the principles of making the train running plan, puts forward the balance conditions for various types of the passenger train and the concept of the passenger convenience with the different train-departure time, then works out the multi-objective bi-level programming model for making the train working plan which based on the maximum benefit of the railway and the maximum convenience of the passenger. At last, it studies the case of passenger railway from Shijiazhuang to Taiyuan.(5) By referring to the research achievements of the other scholars, this paper analyzes the characteristic of inter-lines transfer passenger, makes the model of the maximum transfer time within the passenger's patience by the related conclusions of the Logit model, and makes the departure time model of connected train with the aim of minimum waiting time of transfer passenger. To smooth the passenger transfer and increase the competition ability, the paper suggests the railway refer to the above models when draw the train running diagram.(6) This paper analyzes the characteristics of the carrying capacity calculation of the passenger railways, and researches the calculating method of the railways under the high and medium speed mixed mode and all-high-speed mode. To get the optimized utility ratio, it makes the passenger's satisfaction evaluation model, then calculates the parameters in the carrying capacity calculation. The result from the case study on the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan Passenger Railway shows that the optimized utility ratio of the passenger railway's carrying capacity in the year of 2008, 2015 and 2020 should be 72%, 78% and 69%.
