With the development of computer science and information technology, especially the development of network technology, Our industries, including the manufacturing industry, are urged to develop in the direction of global competition. The cooperation and the competition, the communication and the restriction among the manufacturing enterprises are existed at the same time. In this condition, with the characteristics of steady organizational structure and concentrated manufacturing resources, the traditional manufacturing system modes are unadapted to the changed situation. Meanwhile, networking and intelligentizing are becoming the basement and feature of next-generation manufacturing systems. However, the studies of the behaviors of manufacturing equipment, for its cooperation and co-manipulation to fit the manufacturing environment and for its autonomic control to fit the machining processes, are still absent, because most of these studies are focused on the high level of the manufacturing systems, including the manufacturing modes and organizational structures. It limited the development and practice of the next-generation manufacturing systems.Therefore, to meet the requirements of the dynamic reconfiguration, the inter-operation and cooperation of manufacturing equipment for networked manufacturing systems, in this thesis, an equipment autonomic controller for the networked manufacturing environment is studied deeply so as to implemented a new kind of equipment controller. The main researches of this thesis are as follows.Firstly, based on the analysis of the development trends of the manufacturing industry, an opinion that the distributed networked manufacturing system mode is the most suitable mode for the manufacturing industry is put forward. In such a mode, the manufacturing equipment must have two key features, namely autonomic control for the machining process and for the manufacturing environment. Also, the idea of agent is introduced to the manufacturing equipment controller. Furthermore, the concept and system architecture of the equipment controller are proposed, and the functions of such a controller are also designed.Secondly, an executed scheme and framework of the autonomic control of the machining process is proposed for the realization of the autonomic control of the machining behavior. As an example, the milling process is used to introduce the system structure of the machining environment monitoring, and also the related solution is provided for the cutter condition monitoring and the cutting force distinguishing in machining process. With a vertical milling machine tool, the parameter distinguishing technologies and the control strategies for the intelligent self-adapted machining are also expatiated.Thirdly, the autonomic control technologies for the manufacturing environment are also discussed. The framework and the methods of the autonomic controller for manufacturing environment are introduced, and the strategies and technologies for the cooperation and inter-operation of the NC equipment Agent are proposed. Furthermore, the harmonization methods and algorithms for the CNC equipment are proposed for the characteristics of multi-task and without central controller of the manufacturing environments.Fourthly, concerning with the communication function of the equipment autonomic controller, the hardware and software interfaces of the equipment autonomic controller are designed, including the interface between the controller and the equipment and the interface between the controller and the manufacturing system. By this way, the function of CORBA-MMS-based network communication is realized.Finally, in this thesis, the prototype of the equipment autonomic controller is implemented and a networked manufacturing prototype system, composed by autonomic equipment with the autonomic controller, is developed. With the experiments of three different workpieces, the feasibility and validity of the developed equipment autonomic controller are proved.
