Study On Culture Catalysis Of Urban Regeneration

Urban regeneration is an important field in urban study. Catalytic perspective is a new idea and methodology in architecture design and urban design. Culture and arts have gone to the policy center of urban regeneration in western developed countries. Therefore, the dissert integrates these three trends, and puts forward a new academic theme, viz. Culture Catalysis of Urban Regeneration.The logical clew is deduces through four questions, What is? What to use? How about it? How to use?First question is what is the urban catalytic regeneration? To answer it, the dissert analyzes two relative theories, urban catalyst theory and urban acupuncture theory, and then brings forward the meaning of urban catalytic regeneration and the catalytic system, which consists of three aspects, the aspects are demonstrated in the following chapters. Second question is what to use to catalyze? And therefore educes that culture is active gene of urban regeneration. The dissert justifies the choice through exploring international history of culture catalyzing urban development, the trend of international cultural competition, and creative city orientation in the international cities. Third question is how to release the catalytic power of culture, how about the effect, and how about the situation in Shanghai? For how to release the catalytic power, the dissert separates the active gene and carrier of culture, and classifies three kinds of carrier. Then it constructing three relative models, viz. Pro-active Catalyzing, Retro-Active Catalyzing, and Holistic Catalyzing. For how about the catalytic effect, the dissert expatiates the cultural impetus for environmental renewal, economic regeneration and social regeneration. After, The author chooses eight examples in Shanghai with four categories of historic culture, foreign culture, vanward culture, and mass culture, to sum up the characteristics of cultural catalysis in Shanghai. Fourth question is how to make full use of urban culture. The dissert claims that urban strategic frame is much significant, which includes strategic basis, governance capacity building, and relative supporting mechanism.Finally, the dissert summarizes whole content, and proposes to introduce catalytic methodology to urban governance, to explore cultural potential in urban regeneration and to explode the systems engineering of urban regeneration through urban planning and urban strategy.
