| Being a complex artificial ecosystem, urban green space has natural attributes as well as its cultural property. Urban green space has many social functions such as improving urban ecology, providing recreational and educational place, beautifying the urban environment, providing a venue for prevention of disaster, and protecting the city's context. By means of documents analysis, field visits, case studies and other research methods, this paper points out that urban green land raises socio-educational functions. We should highlight this function in various types of urban greens by conscious planning, design and management activities, improving and expanding the area of social educational activities in the future practice.The dissertation argues that modern education is now changing its direction step by step from meeting the requirements of individual and social development to lifelong education, lifelong learning and learning from society. The educational function of urban green land is an important component of social service. The evolution process of educational function in urban green space is discussed. Educational activities in urban green land can be classified into three categories:education target groups, methods and content of educational activities.The content of the educational activities in urban green land will be divided into four categories. First is that taking the urban green space environment as a place for the dissemination of scientific knowledge and environmental education; Second is taking advantage of the historical and cultural context in urban green space to heritage the history and culture; Thirdly, the educational activities can promote public health and aesthetic accomplishment; Finally, the content of educational activities in urban greenland focuses on enhancing the public social moral, social, collective and national consciousness, and public harmonious relationship between individuals and groups.The dissertation focuses on the means and methods to realizing the educational function in urban green land. First of all educational function can be realized by planning and design. One can use all kinds of design methods in a variety of thematic parks to mix the educational content into the designed green space and combining the landscape scenery with education. Second is to encourage the public to participate in special events held in the urban green space in order to carry out promotional and educational activities. Third is using all kinds of media to achieve the educational goals.Finally, examples from Chicago Botanic Garden, Golden Gate National Park and Yuesaimidi Klee Field National Park reveal the fact how educational activities can be inducted and what content can be arranged in urban green spaces. |
