Research On Climactic Reading Method Of Urban Space

In urban design field, concept categories of Urban Space keep on expanding, which not only demand for higher design quality, but also arrange multifarious survey tasks. In this research context, to discover a systematic and scientific survey method is essential and imperative. The purpose of this study is to construct an urban space survey method system suited for present Urban Space concept and urban design practice, to provide substantial theory and method support for urban space survey, to improve systematization and validity of the survey.Following the framework of method study: epistemology→methodology→technique, the study starts based on the way of logic argument and derivation. First of all, considering the nature and professional environment of urban space survey, it is found that the all-in-one space view of urban space survey is necessary in urban design practice. To match the space view, Text is introduced as the unity of shape and soul, and Textual Space View is founded as the epistemology of urban space survey. Afterwards, Read is introduced as the special approach to understand Text, through the analysis of Reading Text, recessive reading thought is transferred into dominant thinking process: an outside-in approach conforming to the signifying structure of Text. Therefore, after constructing the signifying structure of urban space (Space Form Layer-Life Efficiency Layer-Development Intention Layer), reading thought is generalized to urban space survey, forms the Climactic Reading Methodology (Characterize Space Form Layer→Evaluate Life Efficiency Layer→Interpret Development Intention Layer), and pushes forward the study from epistemology to methodology of urban space survey. Based on Climactic Reading Methodology, the study discusses concepts and characteristics layer by layer, fixes special cognitive principle and method, and constructs all-around content frame, as the deduction from methodology to techniques. As a result, Textual Space View, Climactic Reading Methodology, cognizing method and content frame of each layer compose Climactic Reading Method of Urban Space as a survey method system, which is the core conclusion of the study. At last, the Climactic Reading Method is applied to a specific project, and the positive application value and practical application process are achieved.There are three innovation points in this study: (1) Standing on urban design practice, the study introduces Text from space view demand of urban space survey, establishes relationship between Urban Space and Text, and confirms Textual Space View, which is a new start point of urban space survey.(2) Based on Textual Space View, the study analyses the thought of Reading Text referred from literary theory and psychology of reading, transfers recessive thought to dominant thinking methodology, generalizes the process into urban space survey, and constructs Climactic Reading Methodology of urban space as a new survey methodology.(3) Directed by Climactic Reading Methodology of urban space, according to concept and characteristics of each layer, the study fixes special cognitive method and all-around content frame. combining with Textual Space View and Climactic Reading Methodology, Climactic Reading Method of Urban Space is achieved as a new survey method system, the practical application approach of the method is also concluded through a case study.
